There was a She-Ra cartoon where She-Ra and He-Man discussed sexual exploitation at the end of the program and encouraged children to tell parents or trusted adults if anyone touched them in a way they didn’t like. My daughter has been in therapy for sexual abuse and had been afraid to tell us about it or who the perpetrator was. As a result of that show, our daughter was able to be more open to our questions. Having her heroine say the same things we have been telling her has made such an impression on her.

She-Ra was my favorite cartoon as a kid. When I was 17, I joined the army. I was painfully shy, had never been good at sports or anything.But in basic training, right off the bat, the top athletic people on my platoon were struggling, and it didn’t take long for people to turn their attention on me. They were cheering for me, and calling ME She-Ra!! At the end of basic training, I had everyone sign the back of my platoon photo, and many wrote She-Ra on it and said how I kicked butt on the course. She-Ra was my hero and it was like I actually got to feel like her for one day. So you see, you’ve been a big part of my childhood and one of the best days of my life. Thanks so much.

How do I start a letter to someone I so greatly admire? Someone who has been involved in so many works that I immensely enjoy, and who no doubt has inspired some of the great acting and voice-over work prevalent in today’s TV and movies. Your crystal-clear vocals, energy, commitment to character, and how you’ve presented them—revolutionized how cartoons are presently showcased and pieced together. No matter what production or your role within it, your part is always entertaining and well worth the time or money spent. I can fire up an episode of She-Ra and relive a wonderful period of my childhood. The beautiful princess who turned into the strongest woman in the entire universe will always be my favorite incarnation of you. I was seriously ill with cancer a few years ago, and have no doubt in my mind that a regular dose of He-Man and his twin sister helped me through the toughest times.

Since I was a little girl I have taken comfort in movies and television. I wanted to be She-Ra. I had all the action figures and even went out as She-Ra for Halloween. I still love watching She-Ra to this day. I just wanted to tell you how much joy that film has brought to me over the years.
