I had a great time at Stan Lee’s LA Comicon last the weekend of October! It was a full week of celebrating because that Friday night a Halloween Special I’d done was on CBS, then 2 days of meeting all of you at the convention, and then it was my birthday on the 31st. Since my birthday is also Halloween, there was lots of celebrating everywhere! It’s great to see everyone expressing creativity in costuming almost like cosplay at the conventions.
At this convention I got to see some wonderful old friends like Alan Oppenheimer and E.G. Daily—one of the sweetest most talented ladies I’ve ever known, and some of the most fun fans around as well as meeting new friends. You fans are just the best, and hearing all the stories how She-Ra brought so much to your lives is always inspiring.
There were interviews-(one with a charming puppet!) – a baby who although he actually couldn’t talk yet, could truly raise his arm to try to say “For the honor of Grayskull!” There was even a wonderful She-Ra ring designed and given to me by Brandon @Han Cholo.com.
As a matter of fact, She-Ra inspired me that weekend too. I hadn’t been feeling great since I tore a tendon in April, and trying to heal had been really fatiguing. Not being sure how much I’d be able to do that weekend was a fearful challenge, but calling on the strength of She-Ra and the love and support of members of the great rebellion (my loving and loyal friends and agent Pat Brady at CESD, Nery Lemus and Christopher Arsaga of Celebworx) and all the personal friends who called and messaged me to give me support, we did it!
I am so glad I overcame the fear of disappointing you (or fainting!) and showed up to say, “For the Honor of Grayskull, I am She-Ra!” at the panel.
I think that this convention held a great lesson for all of us. We have times in our lives when we need to overcome our fears and do something we don’t think we can do. I think when we can find those friends who support us in doing what we love in spite of obstacles, we’ve accomplished a great strength and character building exercise. And as well and so important, a confirmation that with love all things are possible! I believe that with all my heart.
Please know even though I don’t get to see all of you, I am always sending you love and support in all your endeavors. You’ve brought great joy to my life as well, and I am grateful for all of you fans of She-Ra.
Next year we’re trying to link up a few more conventions. I know I’l be in Sacramento for the SacAnime Convention in January, and hoping for London, so let’s hope I see you all soon! It’s always my pleasure.
