Awesome Hugs!

August 5, 2016 by Melendy Britt

Tim B. from Columbus sent us this story:

As a child, I fell in love with She-Ra first because She-Ra had a flying unicorn… But for me it was so much more. In junior high, I contemplated suicide. Without He-Man and She-Ra, I probably would have done so. But, they were there to remind me that I have the power! To this day, they are still my heroes reminding me I have the power.

I met Miss Britt at the first Power Con.  After the panel, she had her signing session and, before I even handed her my DVD set to sign, I told her the impact she had made on me and how she had saved me from myself many years ago. She proceeded right then and there to get up from her chair and give me a hug and a kiss! I was so moved.  Even as I write this, I am starting to tear up. She told me thank you for being there to tell my story. And then proceeded to sign my DVD set “To Tim, For your honor,”

I got a second chance to meet Miss Britt at the 2016 Power Con. I played Bow in a He-Man/She-Ra fan film and after the film was over, I bought the She-Ra tiara that had been used in the film and well, since I believe Miss Britt is She-Ra, I figured why not take the tiara with me and hopefully get a picture with her wearing it. So I did and I actually wore the tiara the first day of the con. When I walked up to her table, her first comment was “Oh my goodness, that is so cool! Can I wear it?” I WAS FLOORED! I mean she’d already been told my story and now here she was making this convention the most awesome convention of my life. She put the tiara on, which is very heavy and let me snap the picture. After I took the picture, I thanked her and began crying in front of her again. I reminded her of my story I had told her before and she remembered me. She had me come around behind the table and we hugged again. She gives the most awesome hugs! I kissed her hand, she wiped a tear from my face and we hugged again. Miss Britt is a treasure and anyone who is a fan of her should make the time to see her if the chance arises! For the honor of Grayskull! Melendy Britt is She-Ra!

You’re the awesome one, Tim!

Inspiration Touching Many Lives

August 5, 2016 by Melendy Britt

Jen K. from Fort Wayne sent us this story:

Dear Melendy,
I have fond memories of coming home from school & watching She-Ra on the small TV in my parents bedroom. Even when I watch She-Ra now it reminds me of my Mom – since I used to watch it in her bedroom. She died in January after battling cancer for 12 years. In a way my Mom was like She-Ra – both were brave women who fought tough battles.
I wish I could thank you in person, Melendy, for being an inspiration to me in many ways. You used your talents as a voice actress to touch the lives of many young girls, including me. I feel it’s important to take time to both affirm & thank those people who have positively impacted your life – & you’re one of those individuals,
Melendy!

Your Mom’s bravery is an inspiration and your affirmation is heart-warming. Thank you, Jen.

Our first newsletter!

July 20, 2016 by Melendy Britt

Hi everyone,

This is the first newsletter I’ll be sending out to you who’ve asked to be on the list. I hope to give you news of what’s happening with me, She-Ra, and other things I’m doing and thinking about!

Well, wow–this month in the real world has been a trying and shocking one, for sure. But we must  remember that a life well lived and with meaning, doesn’t always go in a straight line – especially a smooth straight line. We must keep our thoughts on a positive outcome for our world, just as She-Ra did in Etheria! We have to seek the protection in ourselves that the Sword of Protection represented.

I find that especially in these kinds of upheavals, it’s a great practice to meditate and always be grateful for what we have right now, and try to increase the good in our hearts and minds.

There’s a quote I love that speaks in a beautiful way about the human spirit. I can’t remember where I saw it, but it goes like this: “To stand in the midst of darkness and live as though all around you is light, that is the true test of the human spirit.”

Let’s all be the light, and stand together! “For the Honor of Grayskull!”

Lots of love to all of you,

Melendy

Joy and Comfort

Erin B. from San Diego sent us this story:

Melendy and I at He-Man and She-ra day in HollywoodIn 1984 children worldwide were introduced to an amazing character named: She-Ra Princess of Power. Little did I know how much of an effect this cartoon and the voice behind her would have on myself and my big brother Marc…He especially loved the strength and beauty of She-Ra as well as her wonderful voice that brought her character to life…

In 1996 at the age of 22, Marc was diagnosed with a very rare liver cancer…During his illness, watching the show would give him joy and comfort. We would sit together and smile…

In October of 2003, Marc was taken to hospice…I brought his original She-Ra action figure that I remember buying with him at Toys r’ Us to keep by his side. Many times, I placed it in his hand to give him strength and comfort.

On October 25th 2003, Marc passed at age 30…Marc never got to meet Melendy.

However, in 2011 the first Power-Con convention was to be held and to my wonderful surprise, Melendy Britt was to attend. I absolutely had to be there to meet Melendy and tell her how much she meant to Marc and I. I wore a button I had made with Marc’s picture and brought 2 animation cells for her to sign and Marc’s original She-Ra doll. As I explained Marc’s story to her and showed her his picture, I could see how moved she was. It warmed my heart. I then asked if she would kindly hold the doll Marc had held as he passed. She graciously did. She also signed my cells and personalized one to Marc with love. It was a beautiful moment I will never forget.

In 2015, I was able to meet Melendy again in Hollywood for the He-man and She-Ra day. She remembered me as soon as I saw her and told me that she has told the story of Marc so many times to people. I was very touched. She then signed my Catra cell which I love.

Finally in 2016 at the annual Power-Con, I said hello to Melendy again and all I can do when I see her and hear her voice is smile. I hugged her over and over and told her how much we love her… I can’t thank you enough for the joy you have brought Marc and I and so many others around the world. Love always, Marc and Erin.
“For the honor of Grayskull!”

There is no way I could ever forget you and Marc. I love you too.

PowerCon was full of Power!

Power-Con Logo

What a terrific two days we all had at PowerCon 2016!

I got to meet so many of the She-Ra fans and sign photos and mementos from the series. There were some vintage pieces which I’d never seen before. We took photos, had really good conversations at the autograph table, and the panel was so much fun. When the panel goes online, I’ll be sure to give you the link.

The new She-Ra doll was there, and wow, is that package spectacular!  (I think I’ll have to get one, for sure.)

I am full of joy that so many of you got to come to the Con. I met She-Ra fans from Australia, Germany and Argentina, along with Idaho and lots of other places in the US.

I’m really looking forward to getting to see you again.

Till then: “For the Honor of Grayskull”—“You have the Power”!
